Hans Genberg joined the faculty in 1973 and became a full professor in 1979. He was also Executive Director of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Director of the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research in 2005. He was head of the Institute's International Economics Unit for several stints. He directed the International Centre for Monetary and Banking Studies from 1995-1998. Professor Genberg provided important contributions to the body of economics literature, notably to open economy macroeconomics and the understanding of the international monetary and financial system.
